In the afternoon of June 1, 2021, a burst of violence cut short the life of 22-year-old Erik De'Corrius Jones in Bessemer, Alabama. The young man, a resident of the nearby city of Midfield, was in the 500 block of 35th Street South when he was fatally shot. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., shattering the day's calm.
