On June 1, 2021, 22-year-old Erik De'Corrius Jones of Midfield, Alabama, was fatally shot in Bessemer. The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. in the 500 block of 35th Street South. Jones was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
