In the summer of 2023, the life of a promising young athlete was tragically cut short in Bessemer, Alabama. Rishard Jamell Densmore, a 21-year-old male, was fatally shot on the afternoon of Saturday, June 17, 2023. A former standout quarterback for Bessemer City High School, Densmore was a celebrated figure in his community, known for his leadership on the football field and a personality described as charming.
His athletic prowess had earned him a three-star rating by 247 Sports, and after a stint with Alabama State University, he was preparing to continue his football career as a quarterback for Miles College.
The events of that fatal day unfolded in the early evening. Densmore was leaving the Woodward Estates mobile home park and turning onto the Bessemer Super Highway when another vehicle pulled alongside his. An occupant of that vehicle opened fire, striking Densmore multiple times. Despite his injuries, he managed to drive away from the scene in an attempt to flee his attacker. His flight ended a short distance away when he crashed his vehicle in the 900 block of 24th Street North in Bessemer. He was transported to UAB Hospital, but tragically, his wounds proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation into the shooting of the young man, who was a father to two small children. At the time of the incident, authorities reported that the shooting may have been captured on a cell phone. However, despite the ongoing investigation and pleas to the public for information, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Rishard Densmore. The case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a talented young man whose life was taken far too soon.
