Carl Allen Huddleston III, 44, a White male, was killed in the early hours of April 26, 2014, after a night out in Bessemer, Alabama turned violent. In the dim, late-night atmosphere of Danny’s Backstreet Lounge, a confrontation escalated into a fight, and what began as barroom chaos ended with a gunshot that took his life.
Police said the shooting happened around 2 a.m. at the lounge on 4th Avenue North.
As witnesses described it, Huddleston had been caught up in the altercation and was walking away when he was shot. The wound proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead after the shooting.
By the time the immediate panic settled, officers had a suspect at the scene. Bessemer police identified Robert Esmond Davis as the shooter and took him into custody there at the bar, charging him with murder in Huddleston’s death. The case was treated as a homicide from the outset, tied directly to the incident inside and around the lounge that night.
Away from the flashing lights and police tape, the accounts of Huddleston’s life painted a fuller picture of the man whose night ended so abruptly. In his obituary, he is remembered as “Allen,” an avid rider who served as Sergeant at Arms for the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, someone who enjoyed working on cars and who spent his working life with Passmore Towing and Automotive.
