On October 3, 2022, 29-year-old inmate Joseph Agee III was fatally stabbed by another inmate at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. Agee, who was serving a life sentence for a 2012 murder in Selma, was attacked in the evening and succumbed to his injuries approximately half an hour later. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed that Agee died from sharp force injuries inflicted during the assault.
