On July 17, 2022, 45-year-old inmate David Daniel Sloan died at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama, from injuries sustained during an assault by another inmate on June 24, 2022. Sloan was serving a 30-year sentence for first-degree burglary and a 20-year sentence for theft of property, both stemming from a 2011 conviction in St. Clair County.
