On April 4, 2021, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Birmingham police received a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance inside a moving vehicle in North Birmingham. Officers located the vehicle in the 300 block of 9th Avenue West and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Desmon Montez Ray Jr., refused to stop, leading to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle collided with a fence in the 200 block of 9th Avenue West.
