In the late afternoon of September 9, 2024, a burst of violence shattered the workday calm in the parking lot of Engineered Plastics Components Inc. on Greenwood Parkway in Bessemer, Alabama. James Sencer Bowen Jr., a 21-year-old Black / African American male, was shot. He was quickly transported to UAB Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died about an hour later.
