In the quiet evening of December 15, 2020, tragedy struck the life of 24-year-old Dusharme Mandell Jones, a Black male, inside his own home in Bessemer, Alabama. At approximately 9 p.m., in the 1300 block of Fairfax Avenue, Jones was fatally shot, leaving a family searching for answers and a community calling for justice.
That night, witnesses inside the residence reported a harrowing ordeal that began with a robbery.
A man, described as a slender Black male about 5'9' tall, accosted them. Shortly after the robbery, a single gunshot echoed from another part of the house. When responding officers arrived, they found Dusharme Jones deceased on the floor from a gunshot wound. The assailant, along with another unidentified male who was with him, had already fled the scene, disappearing into the night.
The Bessemer Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation into the violent death of Jones. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the case has grown cold. As of late 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The suspects responsible for cutting a young life short remain at large.
In the years following his death, Dusharme's family continues to wait for justice and closure. Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama has repeatedly highlighted the case, offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of those responsible. They assure that anyone who comes forward can remain anonymous, hoping that the incentive and the passage of time will encourage someone with knowledge of the crime to finally speak up and help bring peace to a grieving family.
