On August 1, 2019, 15-year-old Ke’Marius "Mac" Scott of Fairfield, Alabama, was fatally shot in Brighton. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on the 1300 block of Smith Street, where Scott was visiting a friend. Responding officers found him with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
