In the summer of 2019, the life of 15-year-old Ke’Marius Scott was tragically cut short in a burst of violence that unfolded on a street in the Brighton community, near Bessemer, Alabama. On the afternoon of August 1st, in the 1500 block of Smith Street, Scott was fatally wounded by a gunshot to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Remembered as a funny, smart, and caring individual who had a gift for making everyone laugh, Ke'Marius was a student at Fairfield High School.
His sudden and violent death left his family and community in shock and mourning. Affectionately known as 'Mack,' friends and loved ones recalled how he could light up a room the moment he entered.
For months, the investigation into the teen's homicide continued, with authorities following various leads. The diligent work of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office eventually led to a breakthrough. On December 12, 2019, investigators arrested 36-year-old Jodie M. Fuller in connection with the murder of Ke'Marius Scott. Fuller was taken into custody and subsequently held at the Jefferson County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.
