On October 26, 2020, 18-year-old Mikel Cooper, a senior at Bessemer City High School, was fatally shot in a drive-by incident at a residence near the corner of 6th Avenue North and 15th Street in Bessemer, Alabama. The shooting occurred around 5:15 p.m., resulting in Cooper's death and injuries to three other male teenagers aged 13, 16, and 18. The injured were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
