On June 15, 2022, 41-year-old Mitchell R. Cosby, an inmate at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally assaulted by a fellow prisoner. The incident occurred around 4:27 p.m., during which Cosby sustained sharp-force injuries. Due to the severity of his wounds, a life flight to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital was arranged; however, he succumbed to his injuries before the helicopter arrived.
