On February 25, 2020, the body of 38-year-old Karen Joyce Scott was discovered in a manhole on Exeter Alley in Bessemer, Alabama. Scott, a resident of Jackson County, had been reported missing in December 2018. An autopsy revealed that she had died from a gunshot wound, leading authorities to rule her death a homicide.
