On a Thursday afternoon, November 21, 2019, Jekeria Jaquay Osborn was found fatally shot in Bessemer, Alabama. She was in a dark blue Chevrolet Malibu with a male companion, Dandre Paige, who was also deceased from gunshot wounds. The vehicle had come to a stop near the intersection of Alabama Adventure Parkway and the on-ramp for Interstate 20/59.
Around 4:30 p.m., the Bessemer Police Department received a report of a person shot at that location.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a grim scene in the midst of afternoon traffic. Ms. Osborn was found unresponsive in the roadway, having fallen out of the driver's side of the car. Mr. Paige was in the front passenger seat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by Bessemer Fire and Rescue personnel.
Witnesses at the busy intersection described seeing the victims' car slowly creep forward before Ms. Osborn fell out of the vehicle. One witness moved the car to the shoulder of the road. Another witness reported seeing a small, dark sedan leaving the area heading southbound on Alabama Adventure Parkway, but did not see the shooting itself.
The Bessemer Police Department began a thorough investigation into the double homicide. Despite collecting physical evidence and interviewing witnesses, family members, and neighbors, the case eventually stalled. In an effort to generate new leads, a public appeal for information was made, and a reward of $10,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Jekeria Osborn and Dandre Paige. The case remains unsolved.
