On April 14, 2021, 21-year-old Joanne "LaShay" Jackson was fatally shot outside her residence in Bessemer, Alabama. The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the 2800 block of Carolina Terrace. First responders transported Jackson to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.
Authorities identified the suspect as De'Anthius Jacobien Edwards, Jackson's 20-year-old ex-boyfriend. The couple had ended their relationship about a month prior to the shooting. According to Jacks
