On November 24, 2017, 66-year-old Janice Hopkins Stamps was fatally shot at her residence on Hudson Avenue in the Eastern Valley area near Bessemer, Alabama. Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call shortly after 7:30 p.m. and found Stamps suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
