In February 2020, 30-year-old Tiffany Smither Osborne, a female, vanished from her home in Midfield, Alabama. Her boyfriend, Cedric Earl Watts Jr., reported her missing two days after she was last seen on February 17. He told authorities that she had left their residence to walk to a nearby store for cigarettes and never came back. At the time of her disappearance, she was the mother of three children, including a 3-month-old infant who lived with her and Watts.
For nearly two months,
her whereabouts remained a mystery. The search for Tiffany came to a tragic end on April 1, 2020, when a worker cutting grass in Bessemer discovered her body. Her remains had been wrapped and concealed under a discarded mattress at the end of an unfinished road, an area known for illegal dumping. The discovery was made about six miles from where she was last seen. Authorities quickly confirmed the remains were those of Tiffany Osborne and launched a homicide investigation.
The investigation into her death led authorities to the man who had initially reported her missing. In December 2020, Cedric Earl Watts Jr., then 36, was charged with the murder of his girlfriend. At the time the murder charge was brought against him, Watts was already in jail on a probation violation. Investigators believe that a heated argument between the couple escalated, leading to Watts allegedly shooting and killing Osborne. It is believed he then transported her body in his car to the isolated road in Bessemer where she was later found. Watts was held without bail.
