On October 7, 2024, 70-year-old Angela Strickland Lockhart of Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 59/20 near Bessemer. The incident occurred around 1:17 p.m. when a vehicle fleeing from Bessemer police crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Lockhart's car. She was transported to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m.
