On a summer day in 2015, the life of 25-year-old Markeita Holiness, a Black/African American mother of two, was tragically cut short in Bessemer, Alabama. On August 3rd, Holiness was fatally shot, becoming one of numerous homicide victims in the Birmingham area that year. The specific circumstances surrounding the shooting remain largely undisclosed in public reports.
Following her death, funeral services for Holiness were held on August 7, 2015, at the New Bethlehem Baptist Church in
Bessemer. She was later laid to rest at the Alabama National Cemetery. In the wake of her passing, friends and family created a Facebook group titled "In loving Memory Markeita" to share memories and honor her life.
