On January 7, 1977, in Bessemer, Alabama, 60-year-old Willie Mae Hammock was fatally shot by Walter Hill. The incident occurred after Hammock refused Hill's request to marry her 13-year-old daughter, Toni. Following the refusal, Hill shot Hammock in the back of the head.
