In the early evening of December 16, 2019, a dispute at a convenience store in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically escalated, leading to the death of Cheri Lashunda Twilley, a 47-year-old Black female. The incident began with a confrontation between Twilley and a suspect at the store. Shortly after, as Twilley and her son were stopped at a stop sign in the 1600 block of Tuscaloosa Avenue, the suspect fired into their vehicle.
The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. Both Cheri Twilley and her 31-year-old son, Brandon, were struck by the gunfire. They were transported to Princeton Hospital, where Cheri succumbed to her injuries. Her son was treated for his injuries and was expected to recover. Cheri Twilley was a mother of six children.
Birmingham police quickly identified 26-year-old Adam Isom as the suspect in the shooting. Authorities issued warrants for his arrest on charges of capital murder, attempted murder, and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. A search of Isom's home revealed multiple weapons, and police warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
As of late December 2019, law enforcement officials were still actively searching for Adam Isom in connection with the fatal shooting of Cheri Lashunda Twilley. The community was asked to remain vigilant and report any information on his whereabouts to the authorities.
