On September 8, 2018, 21-year-old Marqueze Green, an African American woman from Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot while sitting in a car with another man. Both were transported to UAB Hospital around 12:30 a.m.; Green had suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
