On a Sunday in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of Tawanda Denise Thomas, a 40-year-old female, was tragically cut short. On November 8, 2015, Thomas was found dead in her apartment at the Alpine Village complex in the 1400 block of 13th Avenue South, the victim of a fatal shooting.
Responding to a 911 call, Birmingham police discovered her body, and the initial investigation pointed to a domestic dispute as a potential motive. Suspicion soon fell upon her son, Corey Bullock Jr.
Evidence gathered by investigators led them to believe that Bullock Jr. was responsible for his mother's death. He was subsequently taken into custody and formally charged with murder. At the time of his arrest, his bond was set at $100,000.
The case against Corey Bullock Jr. proceeded through the legal system. In May 2017, he stood trial for the murder of his mother. After hearing the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defense, a Jefferson County jury found Corey Bullock Jr. guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. Following the jury's verdict, he was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for the killing of his mother, Tawanda Denise Thomas.
