On December 24, 2018, 28-year-old Jerika Manuel was fatally shot inside the Piggly Wiggly grocery store located at 2500 29th Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 11:55 a.m., when a suspect entered the store and initiated a physical altercation with Manuel, who was working at the time. The confrontation escalated, leading the suspect to shoot Manuel before fleeing the scene.
