In the early morning hours of April 14, 2026, a sense of quiet rested over the 2100 block of Summit Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Inside his home, 67-year-old Samuel Moore was asleep, unaware of the violence that was about to disrupt the peace of his neighborhood and ultimately end his life. Shortly before 2:45 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the stillness. Moore was struck by multiple bullets as he slept in his bed.
First responders arrived to a distressing scene.
Moore, wounded and shaken, was able to communicate with detectives, telling them he had been asleep when he heard the gunshots. He expressed his confusion about the attack, stating he did not know why anyone would target him or his home. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was initially listed in stable condition.
Despite the initial hopes for his recovery, Moore’s injuries proved to be too severe. After several days of fighting for his life, Samuel Moore succumbed to his wounds on Sunday, April 19, 2026. His death marked the city's 22nd homicide of the year. The Jackson Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they seek to bring justice for Samuel Moore and his family.
