On March 14, 2019, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of 23rd Street and 9th Avenue South, adjacent to the Southtown Court housing project. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Paul Gabriel Harris Jr. lying in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.
