In the winter of 2022, the Carpenter family was dealt a second devastating blow in just nine months. Brandon Tavarius Carpenter, a 28-year-old male, was shot and killed in what Birmingham police described as an ambush on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The incident unfolded in the Tom Brown Village housing community located in the North Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama.
First responders were dispatched to the 4100 block of Mesa Airport Highway around 1:05 p.m., where they found Carpenter lying next to a vehicle with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was rushed to UAB Hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
The preliminary investigation by the Birmingham Police Department suggests that Carpenter was targeted. It is believed that two suspects approached him as he stood beside a vehicle and both opened fire before fleeing the scene. The loss was particularly painful for his family, who were still grieving the unsolved murder of his younger brother, 26-year-old Joshua Carpenter, who had been shot and killed just nine months earlier in a separate incident. The back-to-back tragedies left the family heartbroken and searching for answers. Brandon, along with his late brother Joshua, left behind a combined nine children.
In the time since Brandon Carpenter's death, his family, particularly his older brother, has made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice to both Brandon and Joshua. Despite their efforts and the ongoing investigation by the Birmingham Police Department, no arrests have been announced in connection with Brandon's murder. The case remains unsolved, and authorities continue to ask for the public's assistance, hoping that a tip from the community will help them identify the individuals responsible for the ambush that took the young father's life.
