On February 27, 2018, at approximately 2:00 a.m., residents near the 2900 block of S.J. Bennett Drive in Birmingham, Alabama, reported hearing a single gunshot. An hour later, a passerby discovered the body of 22-year-old Curlie Jamal Burns lying on the sidewalk and promptly contacted authorities. Upon arrival, Birmingham Police officers found Burns deceased from a gunshot wound.
