Rashion McGinnis Cook, a 41-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, was killed in a shooting on the late afternoon of July 1, 2020, on the 1600 block of Maple Avenue SW in west Birmingham. In the first chaotic moments, neighbors and passersby could only piece together what they’d heard and seen: a vehicle pulling up, gunfire cracking through the street, and Cook collapsing where he stood as the car sped away.
