Elbert Lewis, a 38-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, succumbed to complications from a gunshot wound on November 29, 2016, more than a year after he was tragically shot and left paralyzed. His death was officially ruled a homicide by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

The incident that ultimately led to his death occurred on October 8, 2015. On that day, Lewis was shot while in the 1500 block of Avenue F in the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham. The shooting left him with devasta ...
