In the early summer of 2020, a shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, claimed the life of 70-year-old Larry Pettway. The incident, which occurred on June 5, 2020, was later determined to be a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Birmingham Police Department.
Detectives identified a suspect in the case, a 36-year-old man from Birmingham named Brandon Parker. Following their investigation, the details of the case were presented to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. Subsequently, a murder warrant was issued for Parker's arrest in connection with Pettway's death.
At the time the warrant was issued, Parker was already in custody at the Sevier County Jail in Tennessee on charges unrelated to the homicide. Arrangements were made for his extradition to Jefferson County, where he would be held on a $50,000 bond.
