On a day that should have been filled with celebration, Easter Sunday of 2021 became a day of tragedy and questions for the family of Desmon Montez Ray Jr. The 28-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, was killed in an officer-involved shooting that evening, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones who remembered him for his big smile and even bigger heart. His mother, LaShondra Wilson, described him as a loving son who would call to check on her daily.
