In the early morning hours of November 1, 2025, a dispute in York, Pennsylvania, tragically escalated, ending the life of 23-year-old Jyteek Christie, a Black male. The events unfolded around 2:28 a.m. in the 200 block of West Jackson Street, where police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered Christie with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to WellSpan York Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:19 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Christie had been involved in a physical altercation just before the fatal shot was fired. Witnesses and security camera footage indicated a fight between Christie and another male at the intersection of West Jackson and Manor streets. As a crowd gathered, another individual, later identified as 20-year-old Jordan Joseph Frey, was seen running towards the altercation with his hand in his hoodie pocket.
Security and cell phone video evidence showed Frey approaching Christie and, from a very close range, firing a single shot into his stomach. The sound of the gunshot caused the crowd to scatter, and Christie fell to the ground. Following the shooting, Frey was reportedly seen fleeing the scene with two other men and was allegedly heard saying, 'I shot him.'
An autopsy later confirmed that Christie had been shot at close range. The York City Police Department, acting on multiple anonymous tips, quickly identified Frey as the suspect. On November 5, 2025, a joint operation involving the York City Police Department, the York County Quick Response Team, and the U.S. Marshals Service resulted in Frey's arrest at a residence in the 700 block of Linden Avenue. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license. Frey was denied bail and is being held at York County Prison.
