On June 6, 2024, 21-year-old Shyquel Rashad Folk of Windsor Township, Pennsylvania, was fatally shot in York City. The incident occurred in the 400 block of North Beaver Street, where police discovered Folk's body in a fenced-in backyard. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Prior to the shooting, officers were involved in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot near the scene. Shortly thereafter, gunshots were heard, leading police to Folk's location. Investigators believe that Folk was among the individuals in the stolen vehicle.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Folk's death. The York City Police Department continues to investigate the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. Detective Commander Andy Baez emphasized the department's commitment to seeking justice for Folk's family.
Folk's passing marked the third homicide in York City for the year. Community members have expressed concerns about safety in the neighborhood, highlighting the broader impact of such incidents on local residents.
In addition to the ongoing investigation, Folk's family and friends mourn his loss. He is remembered as a loving father and dedicated family member, survived by his companion, children, siblings, and extended family. A celebration of his life was held on June 14, 2024, at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service in York.
