A distressing incident unfolded in downtown Portland on the evening of Sunday, April 27, 2025, culminating in the tragic death of Joshua Joel Pangelinan Manahan, a 44-year-old male. At approximately 10:20 p.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of South Harbor Drive and South Harrison Street.
Upon arrival, they found Manahan suffering from serious gunshot wounds.
Paramedics quickly transported Manahan to a nearby hospital to receive emergency medical care for his life-threatening injuries. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds the following day, April 28, 2025. An autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner's office later confirmed that Manahan's death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. His family, who described him as a "bright, loving and fiercely loyal" individual, was notified of his death and has requested privacy.
The Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit launched a thorough investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible. Their investigative efforts proved fruitful, leading to the identification of a suspect.
On Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers from the East Precinct located and arrested 42-year-old Rodney Marcus Arreguin. Arreguin was taken into custody in connection with Manahan's death and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Robbery in the First Degree. The family of Joshua Manahan was promptly notified of the arrest.
