Evette had attended the Genesis School and later graduated from Central High School before earning a certificate as a bank teller.
In early May of 2017, she was focused on self-improvement and raising her child, frequently spending time with her relatives and planning family gatherings.
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 7, 2017, Evette joined her family for a barbecue at Swope Park, a popular gathering spot in the city. The day was meant to be a celebration of community and togetherness. However, the atmosphere turned chaotic when gunfire suddenly erupted in the area near where the group had assembled. As the situation escalated, Evette attempted to leave the park in her vehicle to escape the danger. Tragically, she was caught in the crossfire during the exchange of bullets between unknown individuals.
Police officers responding to the scene discovered Evette in the driver's seat of her car, suffering from a critical gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where medical personnel worked to save her life. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries three days later and was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Her death marked the fortieth homicide in Kansas City that year, leaving her young daughter and grieving family behind.
