Danny Ray Goins, a 59-year-old white male, was found dead on November 14, 2016, in his mobile home located at 410-4 Christopher Road, Shelby, NC. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office reported that Goins had been shot at least once before his mobile home was set on fire. Firefighters discovered his body while extinguishing the blaze. The investigation revealed that the fire was likely set to cover up the shooting.
Two arrests were made in connection with Goins' death.
His son, Kyle Ray Goins, 37, and Timmons Ray Martin, 33, both of Kings Mountain, were charged with first-degree murder. Both suspects were friends and were held in the Cleveland County Detention Center without bond. Investigators believe that Kyle Goins and Martin shot Danny Goins and then set the mobile home on fire to conceal the crime. The motive for the shooting and arson remains unclear, but it was reported that Kyle Goins and his father had an argument the night before the incident. Additionally, Kyle Goins allegedly stole $9,000 from his father, which may have contributed to the conflict.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Cleveland County Fire Marshal. Family members, friends, and business associates gathered at the scene as investigators worked to uncover the details of the crime.
