Travis Wallace, a 35-year-old male, was found dead on October 12, 2015, at the Super 8 Motel in Shelby, North Carolina. Wallace, who was from Gaffney, South Carolina, was discovered in room 218 with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m., and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Wallace was involved in selling methamphetamine out of the motel room. On the night of his death, several people were coming and going from the room, and drugs were present. Wallace's sister, Megan, and a family friend, Shannon Butler, visited him the night before his death and noted that he seemed "a bit off" and mentioned his two children, which was unusual for him.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with Wallace's murder: Timothy John Clark, 46, Willa Jean Hucks, 37, Brint Ray Davis, 26, and Michael Anthony Dinneen, 36, all from Union, South Carolina. They were charged with first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon. The investigation was a collaboration between the Shelby Police Department, Union County Sheriff's Office, Union Public Safety, and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
The trial for Timothy John Clark began in May 2017. During the trial, it was revealed that Wallace was selling methamphetamine out of the motel room, and the suspects entered the room looking for drugs and money. Kristie Sheehan, who was in the room at the time of the shooting, testified that a man wearing a black hoodie and a black handkerchief around his face entered the room, demanded money, drugs, and a gun, and then shot Wallace when he refused to comply.
Clark was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. Brint Ray Davis was convicted of accessory after the fact of first-degree murder and sentenced to a minimum of six years in prison. Michael Anthony Dinneen was also found guilty of accessory after the fact of first-degree murder and was up for release in 2020. Willa Jean Hucks was found guilty of second-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to a minimum of 12 years in prison. Jason Allen Jobe and Karrie Amanda Roach were also convicted for their involvement in the crime.
