On August 3, 2023, at approximately 5:36 p.m., officers from the Shelby Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Grice Street in Shelby, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 49-year-old Stacey Mills McSwain lying in the front yard of 347 Grice Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel from Cleveland County EMS pronounced McSwain dead at the scene.
