In the heart of New Orleans, just as Christmas Day was turning into the day after, a burst of violence shattered the holiday peace. Inside a home in the 3300 block of First Street in Central City, 41-year-old Fernell Richmond was shot multiple times just before midnight on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. He died at the scene. The male victim's death was confirmed by the Orleans Parish Coroner's office.
In the aftermath of the shooting, investigators discovered that Richmond's 2003 Chevrolet
pickup truck was missing from the scene. The New Orleans Police Department issued a public appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of the truck, which had a Louisiana license plate of C664523. They released a photo of a similar model in the hopes that someone might come forward with information that could lead to a break in the case.
Despite the police investigation and the plea for public assistance, there have been no announced arrests or publicly identified suspects in the murder of Fernell Richmond. The case has grown cold over the years, leaving his family and community without answers or a sense of justice for his untimely death. His loved ones were left to mourn a life cut short by violence, with a funeral service held in early January 2018.
