De’Quan “Snupe” Roland Dew, 21, was a Black male from New Orleans, Louisiana, whose life ended on August 24, 2020.
That Monday night, as the city settled into late-summer darkness, police were called to Algiers and found Dew shot inside a vehicle in the 3400 block of Mansfield, around 9:30 p.m. The scene was stark and still—an ordinary residential stretch turned into a homicide investigation by the sudden violence that had unfolded there.
In the days that followed, the public record offered only fragments of who he was beyond the crime scene: a young man who came up through Orleans Parish schools, earned multiple scholarships from Lake Area, and attended Dillard University for a time. Loved ones remembered him by his nickname, “Snupe,” and through the plans and promise that should have stretched far beyond that night.
As for who pulled the trigger, the trail in publicly available reporting remains thin. Crimestoppers Greater New Orleans has continued to list the case as open and has sought information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or people responsible, signaling that investigators still need the community’s help to close the gap between what happened and who did it.
