William Clark Coit Jr., a 44-year-old Caucasian male, was fatally shot on March 29, 1972, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Coit was an engineer and had been married to Jill Coit, a woman with a history of bigamy and alleged criminal activities. The couple had two children together, and Coit had also adopted Jill's son from a previous marriage.
