Frank Schneider, a 62-year-old assistant manager at the Howard Johnson Hotel in New Orleans, was tragically killed on January 7, 1973. Schneider was one of several victims caught in a deadly shooting spree orchestrated by Mark Essex, a Black Panther militant. Essex's rampage began on New Year's Eve 1972 and culminated in the hotel shooting, where he killed Schneider, hotel guests Robert Steagall and his wife, and several police officers.
