In the quiet city of Opelousas, Louisiana, a tragic discovery shattered the community on December 1, 2022. On that Thursday, 21-year-old Samijah Leday, a female resident, was found deceased alongside 19-year-old Alexie Joubert. The two young women were discovered inside a red Chevrolet Cruze parked in the driveway of an apartment complex on Ina Claire Drive.
The vehicle was riddled with an excess of 50 bullet holes, telling a grim story of the violence that had unfolded.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find a harrowing sight. Both Leday and Joubert had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and the sheer number of shell casings from a high-powered. 223 or 5.56mm weapon scattered nearby painted a picture of a brutal and relentless attack. The Opelousas Police Department, in conjunction with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office, immediately launched an exhaustive investigation into the double homicide, executing numerous search warrants and conducting forensic examinations of electronic devices in an effort to piece together the events that led to the untimely deaths of the two women.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified two suspects in connection with the murders. One of the individuals, 30-year-old Casey Rubin, was taken into custody. However, he was later released from jail as the St. Landry Parish District Attorney's Office continues to build its case, retaining the right to reinstate charges in the future. The second suspect, 18-year-old Sadavion George, was also identified and remains incarcerated, though on a separate and unrelated charge of second-degree murder.
