An evening of violence in Opelousas, Louisiana, on December 1, 2022, tragically cut short the life of 19-year-old Alexia Joubert. She and a companion, 21-year-old Samijah Leday, were discovered inside a parked vehicle on Ina Clare Drive, the car riddled with an overwhelming number of bullet holes. The two young women were pronounced dead at the scene, both having suffered multiple gunshot wounds in what was described as a hail of gunfire.
The initial investigation into the double
homicide left the community searching for answers as police worked to identify those responsible for the brutal act. For over a year, the case remained a primary focus for law enforcement, who followed numerous leads and processed a significant amount of evidence. The relentless effort of investigators eventually led to a breakthrough in the case.
In February 2024, authorities announced the identification of two suspects in connection with the murders: 30-year-old Casey Rubin and 18-year-old Sadavion George. Following this development, Casey Rubin was released from jail, although the St. Landry Parish District Attorney's Office has retained the right to bring charges against him at a later date as the investigation continues. Sadavion George remains incarcerated, held on a separate and unrelated charge of second-degree murder. The case against both men in the deaths of Alexia Joubert and Samijah Leday is ongoing, leaving a community still awaiting full justice for the two young lives lost.
