Alton James Thomas, a 46-year-old African American man, tragically lost his life on April 27, 2022, in Opelousas, Louisiana. The incident occurred when two men entered the apartment where Alton James Thomas and a 4-year-old girl, Rakatelyn Janae Colla, were present. The assailants opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, resulting in the deaths of both Alton James Thomas and the young girl. The shooting also left three other juveniles injured.
