The incident occurred during a family gathering at her sister's mobile home on Prudhomme Street in Opelousas. Witnesses reported that her husband, Kerry J. Varis, 38, shot Nancy in the head before turning the gun on himself. The couple had been experiencing marital issues, and Nancy had expressed her desire to end the marriage.
