In the afternoon hours of November 14, 2018, a burst of violence in North Baltimore left one man dead and two others wounded in separate incidents within a half-hour span. Twenty-three-year-old Donyea Holbrook, a Black male, was found by police in the 1100 block of Ramblewood Road with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The shooting that claimed Holbrook's life was part of a rapid succession of events that had police responding to
multiple crime scenes in a short period. The first incident involved a 34-year-old woman who walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to her back, stemming from an argument. Shortly after the call that led police to Holbrook, another report came in of a man shot in the back on East Cold Spring Lane.
Detectives from the Citywide Shooting Unit were tasked with investigating the string of shootings. They appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the violence that shook the community that autumn afternoon. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the murder of Donyea Holbrook. The case is one of many that highlight the persistent issue of gun violence in the city.
