In the winter of 2025, the city of Baltimore marked its first homicide of the year with the death of Richie Juan Briggs Sr., a 36-year-old Black male. On the afternoon of January 9th, at approximately 3:10 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in the 5900 block of Daywalt Avenue in the northeastern part of the city. Upon their arrival, they discovered Briggs suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of medics who were called to the scene, he was pronounced dead right there on the street.
The investigation into who was responsible for the fatal shooting began immediately, with homicide detectives taking charge. Authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The Baltimore Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact either the homicide unit or the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line. The investigation remains active as they continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
Richie Briggs, born on February 18, 1988, was a father to five sons. His family and friends mourned their loss, holding funeral services for him at Mt. Pleasant Church, and he was later buried at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. His loved ones remember him as a beloved father, spouse, son, and brother who left behind a legacy of cherished memories.
