In the winter of 2022, the life of 16-year-old Jaylin Gourrier-Lewis was tragically cut short in Troy, New York. On the evening of February 9th, the male teenager was found with severe injuries on Fifth Avenue, near 105th Street, the victim of a fatal shooting. He was quickly transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds. This event marked the second time in approximately a month that a 16-year-old in Troy had been killed by gunfire, shaking the community.
