In the early evening of August 17, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Troy, New York neighborhood, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Zeandre Domingo, a 23-year-old Black male, was shot near the intersection of Adams and 4th Streets. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The incident marked the seventh homicide in the city that year, contributing to a growing concern over gun violence in the community.
The Troy Police
Department, in conjunction with state and federal law enforcement, launched an extensive investigation into Domingo's death. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of two suspects: Nahsone Pinn, 23, and Eric Stroud, Jr., 20, both residents of Troy. The motive behind the shooting was determined to be intentional, with prosecutors asserting that both Pinn and Stroud fired their weapons with the intent to kill Domingo.
Pinn and Stroud were subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Their cases were tried together, and in April 2023, a jury found both men guilty on all counts. The prosecution, led by Rensselaer County Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Botts, presented a compelling case that convinced the jury of their guilt. Following their conviction, both Pinn and Stroud were sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for the murder charge, with an additional 15 years for the weapons charge, to be followed by three years of post-release supervision. The sentencing brought a measure of justice to Domingo's family and the community, sending a strong message against the scourge of violent crime.
